First of all, I will say. I’m a huge Tarantino fan and thought it was a fantastic movie.

Secondly, my black friend who came along with me thought it was freaking fantastic/hilarious as well.

Minus the over the top violence which is a classic of Tarantino. The usage of the ‘N’…

Are you saying there are no other black people who enjoyed it? I can assure you there are plenty of white and black people who loved the movie and plenty of white and black people who hated it. In fact I shouldn’t even of brought race into this at all, and I wouldn’t of if it didn’t matter so much to tumblr. All the posts I saw were stating that this was offensive towards black people so I retaliated with a post mentioning it was not the intention of the movie and that obviously there are black people who can watch the movie knowing it is simply for realism. Instead of being irrelevant and attacking my one example please debate my overall argument.

You use this bolded point to support your argument that it is ridiculous to take offense of the use of the “n-word” for realistic effect. I understand that by your accurate statistics there are, “[…]plenty of white and black people who loved the movie and plenty of white and black people who hated it”. The number of people that enjoyed or detested the movie is not my issue with your post. The fact that you feel as a white person that it is okay to tell a person of color when and how they should take offense to language directly connected to their experiences as POC is what I am offended by. The fact that you feel your one black friends experience should invalidate any other POC’s experience is what is so offensive. Whether the movie is offensive or not is subjective. Just because a person can sit through a film and find no offense does not mean the person four rows down should not.

You are dissatisfied with me for using my friends race as an example in an argument. And the first thing you do in your post is call me a disgruntled white person. I can’t even……

If you read my last reblog you would see that I was not using the point to support usage of the “n-word”. But simply as an example that no matter what race you are the movies meaning and the situation the word is used in does not change. No matter what race you are you can enjoy the movie. Also I never said my one black friends experience invalidates anyone elses opinion, I have no clue why you are making this entire post about my friend. I am not trying to make it illegal for you to have opinion I am just saying that in my opinion people who are offended by this are over-reacting.

One more thing I would like to clarify, I am addressing all humans in this post. Not just POC’s. Hence why I mentioned my opinion as well. You mentioned that I am targeting POC’s opinions and that you are offended that as a white person i think i can tell POC’s what to think about the movie… The majority of people I have listened to who were offended by this movie were white in fact. If anything I am gearing this debate it towards those individuals.

Whether you bolded the statement or not is irrelevant. If the use of stating your friend’s race was to further the point that “no matter what race you are you can enjoy the movie” you should have just stated that. My point was and is that your friends race was not relevant and did not need to be stated to further your opinion. If you were worried about people taking offense by stating your friends experience, you should have stated why her experience as a black person viewing the film is relevant.

When you replied to my original post you asked what I meant. I replied with the a clear statement about the meaning of my original post. I was offended by the fact that you felt simply stating that your friend enjoying Django Unchained would be valid enough of an argument for other people to not take offense to the film. That is why my whole post is about your friend because that is what I was offended by. Just because your one black friend enjoyed the film does not mean another person can enjoy the film. How does her perception of the film mean anything to me?

The fact that you are addressing all people in the post should have been made apparent. Instead you chose to state the race of one person in your post. How is stating the experience of your black friend and your experience come across as “addressing all humans”? I do not care that a majority of the people complaining are white. The majority of the people who I noticed took offense were of color, me being one of them.That is not relevant to my argument, which is that you thought it was appropriate to dictate how a person finds offense in this film.
